Menopause and Hormone Imbalance
Am I experiencing "the change of life" ?
The truth is that women all over the world are asking this question daily and are desperate for answers. It is important to know, you are not alone!
What is Menopause?
Menopause is a condition in which women experience decreased hormone levels (estrogen & progesterone) resulting in the absence of menstrual cycles for 12 consecutive months.

There are 3 main stages of menopause:
-
Perimenopause (Before)
-
Menopause (During)
-
Postmenopause (After)

Am I too young?
Although the average age is 51, menopause can occur as early as your 30's and even into late 50's for some.
Are menopause symptoms the same for everyone?
No. Many women will experience an array of menopausal symptoms ranging from mild to severe. Here are a few of the most common:

-
Hot Flashes
-
Night Sweats
-
Mood Changes & Irritability
-
Brain Fog
-
Vaginal Dryness & Pain with Intercourse
-
Frequent Urination
What treatment options are available ?
If hormone imbalance related to menopause is causing your symptoms, suffering isn't the only option! There are a variety of treatment plans that can be both safe and effective. And the best part is that treatment doesn't always include a pill!

Treatment options may include:

-
Lifestyle Improvement
-
Non-Hormonal Therapies
-
Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)
-
Bio-identical HRT
-
Combination Therapy
-
Alternative/Herbal Treatment
-
Other Prescription Treatment

Which option is best for me ?
In order to find the best treatment plan we must ask ourselves a few questions:

-
Most importantly: Is it safe?
As with any treatment plan, we must first consider the risks and certain underlying health history may exclude HRT as a safe option. Factors including medical and family history should be discussed with your provider prior to starting any treatment program.

-
Is my quality of life suffering and is treatment really necessary?
While some women will experience debilitating symptoms during menopause, others will say that they barely even notice "the change". If you feel your symptoms are effecting your quality of life, it may be time to consider treatment.

-
Is treatment considered a one-size fits all?
Absolutely not. Not all menopause symptoms are created equal. A woman with vaginal dryness as her only complaint may not require the same treatment as a woman experiencing severe hot flashes. In my opinion, less is more when it comes to medicine and your treatment plan should be customized to meet your needs.
